Hawaiian applique

I don't have much progress to report so I'm sharing one of my hawaiian applique projects. I just have to finish the backs of the turtles. I love doing this kind of applique. I wonder if I could do it justice by machine quilting it.

I have the pattern and fabrics for a bedsize quilt but I promised myself I would finish this one first. I'm a little intimidated to cut into this fabric....

I'm thinking I might take a class with Nancy Chong in November at the Quilters Gathering in Nashua, NH. I guess I should look into that before the class is full.

Beautiful! I just bought my second book on Hawaiian applique yesterday, well the first one is just a pattern book without much explanation.

I've decided that Doll Quilt #3 will be a Hawaiian one since the possibility of me doing a full size one is nil!

Have absoloutely no idea how Hawaiian applique is done, but after my tiny little bit I did on the fall quilt, I'm hooked. So much so I've just finished tracing off a huges design for a wall hanging. I must be nuts.

I have several Hawaiian applique books, and even took a two-hour intro course one night. I haven't tried one yet, but you may have just gotten me interested again.

The fabric AND your work is gorgeous!

Great looking applique! Hawaiian quilts are definitely on my "to do" list especially after I made a Christmas stocking and fell in love with it. Someday...

Wow, it's lovely. I've been eying the Quilter's Gathering in Nashua. It's really not that far from me and I can always stay at my inlaws. I'll have to check out the site again! Perhaps I can make it happen. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!

Just wanting to say hey. Miss all of you and I'll be back soon.
Are you behaving on my blog or is it Kim and Darlene that are the problem over there? LOL

Well, darn it, I was hoping to beat Darlene here, but look who's Miss Smarty Pants First in Line! By the way, Sharon, Yvonne is definitely the problem. Or maybe it's Darlene. Or Darlene and Yvonne. But it most certainly ISN'T me! LOL! Love your Hawaiian applique, Yvonne! That's another thing I haven't tried yet! You do lovely work!

Yvonne - it's time to give Kim that wedgie. She raced over here to harass you and then said we were both troublemakers. We know who the troublemaker is - KIMMERS!

The quilt is gorgeous. I made a hawaiian sampler lap quilt a few years ago. I learned how to do it from watching a video set of Elizabeth Akana's Hawaiian Quilting show that aired on Hawaiian public tv. Everyone should have a copy of this series.
